Where Lions Once Were

Set against the backdrop of Cha Simba, Kenya, the lives of the Chonyi sub-tribe of the Mijikenda have been entwined with Cha Simba caves, an ancient limestone outcrop for centuries. A young family of six, who have grown up next to the caves are restoring the deforested landscape, but now an upcoming mine threatens the future of this fragile landscape and the community who rely on it.

Guided by Ibrahim and his mother Millicent, the film explores how extraordinary this cave is, what it means to the family and the measures they are taking to preserve it for future generations.
